Get Rid of Your Vitamin D Deficiency
April 13, 2010 in Syndrome
Hypovitaminosis D is a deficiency of Vitamin D. It can result from inadequate intake coupled with inadequate sunlight exposure (in particular sunlight with adequate ultra violet B rays), disorders that limit its absorption, conditions that impair conversion of vitamin D into active metabolites, such as liver or kidney disorders, or, rarely, by a number of hereditary disorders.1
Deficiency results in impaired bone mineralization, and leads to bone softening diseases, rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults, and contributes to osteoporosis. Osteomalacia may also occur rarely as a side-effect of phenytoin use.
Together with Calcium, Vitamin D helps develop strong bones and teeth, and also contributes to breast and immune system health. A review study on the benefits of Vitamin D recommends increased use of supplements in the United States to help ensure optimal health, and that supplementing with 1000 IU of Vitamin D3 can be an effective way to accomplish this.
All Puritan's Pride Vitamin D formulas are high-potency 1000 IU, 2000 IU and 5000 IU D3.
Every Vitamin World Vitamin D formula contains D3, a more potent and active type of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential to Calcium absorption.
